Checking Out a new Mountain – Brian Head in Utah

I took a solo trip to Brian Head, Utah to ski a few weeks back; I wanted to explore another resort on my Snowbowl Pass. I drove up after work from Flagstaff, AZ and it took just about 4 hours and 40 minutes. It’s an easy drive, although I did start to get a bit concerned when I didn’t pass a single other vehicle for the last hour.

I stayed at the Cedar Breaks Lodge which I booked directly from an owner on Airbnb. The location is great, the studio was clean, updated, and I had everything I needed to cook a meal. Unfortunately, there is zero sound proofing. Every child screaming down the hall, door slammed, and drunk adult sounds like they are on top of you; bring ear plugs! The restaurant on site was bare bones. No salsa or sour cream for their quesadilla, but you can get a bourbon and play a few rounds of pool with cues that have no tips on them.

I could walk to the Navajo lift from where I was staying, which was awesome. The mountain was empty, the weather was bluebird. The runs were groomed, and the snow was good, although a bit slushy by noon. Overall, the mountain was a bit flat. It also took a bit of time/effort to get from one side to the other, as the Navajo lift only services greens/blues. It’s a good mountain to learn on.

There is nothing in Brian Head itself, a couple small general stores to buy your basics that are closed by 8:30pm and a couple restaurants. I heard the Thai Place Sook Jai is actually pretty good. I would recommend getting a place with a kitchen and coming prepared to make all your own meals.
